Tiny Light Shaylin just will not take “NO” for an answer. This four-year-old little girl wants to do everything on her own, despite battling cancer and other serious medical setbacks.

Shaylin was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia – cancer of the white blood cells - just before she turned three years old.  Her parents, Crystal and Emil, were shocked. “How could someone so small get cancer?” The chemotherapy left Shaylin’s immune system weak, and she contracted two viruses, which ultimately led to cardiac arrest.

Thankfully, this beautiful little girl keeps fighting and her condition improves everyday. Though doctors told her family she would never be able to walk, see or go to school, Shaylin has defied the odds. She has her sight and even remembers her colours. Shaylin loves playing with blocks and putting things together.  She also enjoys colouring and painting.

This Tiny Light is motivated to regain all her mobility, and her parents are confident their little girl will walk and talk again – one step at a time. “I just can’t believe she’s been through so much, and still, she’s always smiling and laughing.”
