Meet Tiny Light Emily. She loves playing with her dolls, going to ballet class, spending time at the park and dressing up like a princess. She also enjoys eating birthday cake!
At just five months old, Emily was diagnosed with strabismus (a disorder in which the eyes do not line up). Doctors assured Emily’s parents that her strabismus was not related to a neurological problem and she went on to pass all of her developmental milestones. However, at age two, Emily was subsequently diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy spastic diplegia after balance issues had been noted at her annual checkup. Shortly after that, she began weekly physiotherapy treatments and was prescribed with braces for her legs in order to help stretch her muscles and aid her in alignment.
This Tiny Light inspires her family every day with her bravery and determination. Her work ethic with her physiotherapy has been particularly amazing as she has made such progress in a short amount of time.
Emily is now four years old and has finished her physiotherapy treatment. She has been able to achieve walking on a balance beam, jumping two feet high, hopping on one foot three times in a row and riding her “big girl bike” to the park. Emily’s family hopes that their Tiny Light will continue to persevere and grow to “...do something that she loves.”
