Whether it’s going for walks or camping, Tiny Light Walter Wayne wants to spend every moment he can outdoors, even in the middle of a snowy northern BC winter. After spending the first 18 months of his life cooped up indoors, who can blame him?

Walter Wayne weighed just 690 grams when he was born at 24 weeks gestation. His parents, Crystal and Mark, did not get to hold their baby boy until he was nearly two weeks old.  By then, he’d already undergone heart surgery. Despite being on a ventilator for 67 days and becoming septic twice, this little miracle baby did not give up. After 134 days in the NICU, he got to go home.

The first year at home was not easy. A chronic lung condition – bronchopulmonary dysplasia – meant Walter Wayne had to be isolated. He fought pneumonia and chest infections that lasted months. But now, the busy two-year-old keeps the family very busy. He likes to dance and listen to music.  He enjoys trips to the library and exploration place, but he especially loves cuddles and story time with his mommy and daddy.

The family cherishes every moment together. This Tiny Light has such joy for life, he is an inspiration to everyone. “Walter’s strength and resiliency amazes me. He shows me how to love every day. Keep faith in your child. They will amaze you.”
